BIG birthday Recap

21 May

Please forgive me for my mini hiatus from blogging the past week. B had a whole bunch of things in store for my birthday, so I’m going to take this opportunity to recap it all. It was definitely a great start to 26.

So my birthday (last Saturday) started relaxed. We slept in, slowly got ready, enjoyed a yummy chocolate chip/banana pancake breakfast with avocado omelette and ginger tea. B and I then headed out to go shopping. He was insistent of getting me something extravagant for my birthday; I refused and told him I wanted a juicer. A JUICER! This is what happens when you get married; you actually start to think practically. By the way, since getting the juicer last week, we have been juicing pretty much everyday (I made fresh orange juice on Sunday. DELICIOUS). Anyway, we lunched at Pizza Antica in Santana Row, enjoying authentic (by American standards) sausage and mozzarella pizza. Afterwards, we strolled around the row, and did a little shopping. It was really nice to enjoy each other’s company (life has been pretty crazy lately, so it was nice to reconnect with B). We dropped off our loot at home and made a quick outfit change. B had a surprise in store; he even went to far to not put the address into the GPS; he sneakily checked the directions on his phone, making sure I didn’t peek over to see where we were headed. We got onto the freeway, and drove. And drove. And finally I saw signs for Santa Cruz so I was like, AH HA! We’re going to Santa Cruz! He just nodded his head, and took an exit premature of Santa Cruz. At this point I was thoroughly confused. Finally, we went through a quaint beach town as the sun was setting, and pulled into a parking lot. I noticed we were at a restaurant called Shadowbrook. If you live in the Bay Area, this place is a MUST. From the trolley ride, to the atmosphere, to the gourmet food, to the live music, it was an evening of perfection. Fully satisfied from the service and meal, B and I then headed to our friends’ house where they had a cupcake cutting and her famous ginger tea (seriously famous, B dreams of this stuff). We laughed and joked thoroughly, which brought my birthday to a close. Little did I know that the celebrations were just beginning…

Part 2 of my birthday was Saturday. B told me to dress comfortably, bring water, and wear sunscreen. SO understandably I thought we were going for a hike. We drove along the main streets (I was thinking, where are the trails?) and finally ended up near the San Jose airport. Finally, B parked, and said, “We’re HERE!” and I said, “We’re WHERE?!” He proceeded to tell me I was going to fly a plane. A PLANE! So remember how I said earlier you start to think practically after marriage? YEAH…About that…flying a plane sounds like the least practical thing I could do. Anyway, with nervous trepidation B and I met the instructor and headed towards our 4-seater Cessna. We had a quick check of the plane, sat inside, and put on our headsets. I listened to the tower’s instructions, and was amazed by all the gadgetry in the cockpit. We took off, and B and I were in awe of the views. We flew over the hills to Santa Cruz and back. I had the controls the whole time minus take-off and landing. Needless to say, it was a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

To cap the birthday extravaganza, B got me a gift I’ve been wanting since my childhood. A PUPPY!! Sophie’s the sweetest thing I’ve ever seen and is basically a ball of white fur. It’s been such a joy bringing her home, playing with her, and slowly teaching her how to sit and follow instructions.

All-in-all, this was one of the best birthdays to date. I thank everyone for all of your texts, phone calls, messages and warm wishes. Love you all. xoxo. By the way, this blog might just become a doggy-central. Just a heads up ;)
